The World Ranking for Mountain Running consists of points allocated to each athlete based on the results of their races. The WMRA uses a category classification to allocate a points weighting to the most important mountain running events. Whereby category A races will allocate a greater number of points compared to category B, C etc. This rewards the athletes who compete at the most prestigious and important Mountain Races around the World.
An athletes current World Ranking calculation is taken by adding these points from the race results over the preceding 365 days. This makes the World Ranking for Mountain Running a rolling yearly ranking meaning that the current position reflects the athletes results over the past year when viewed from any day. It means that the current ranking will show a real 365 placing in the World and is updated in real time.
An historical record of Calendar Year Rankings for each athlete is also provided where it is possible to see an athletes highest ranking over a calendar year (1 January – 31 December). It is the total number of points an athlete has accumulated over that period of time ranked against all other athletes.
